Eleni - Product Idea

Hello all!

So this was a very challenging experience for me. I felt as if almost every invention I came up with, there was already an existing product or something similar to it, or just too impossible to create. I kept trying to think of my daily life, daily routine, thinking about something that I wish I had in order to make my life easier. That surprisingly didn't work out as well as I thought, so then I tried thinking about others and what the general public might need. After a lot of thinking, I finally came up with a product, but I do not have a name for it just yet, but I will present it to you guys.

I decided to ask some of my family members what "thing" they wish they had in order to make their lives easier. One issue that stood out to me and decided to work with was when my older sister said that she hates always having to carry the carseat for her kids in and out of the car, or to detach and reattach it when switching from different cars. She wishes there was an easier way to go about this.

The Product:

My idea, was what if the carseat was no longer its own independent thing, but rather something that became apart of the car. I'm still thinking of how it would be created, whether it be something where you press a button and a built-in carseat pops up, or if the seat folded in someway to transform into a carseat, I'm not sure. But I thought this might be a possible idea for a product because it will most definitely appeal to the mothers group where they too hate having to carry this heavy seat around along with their baby bag and their purse and what not. The family groups in general I feel would like this, because sometimes it becomes a problem for my family when someone needs to pick up the kids, it becomes an issue with whose car has a carseat or if it doesn't we have to go through the whole process of taking the carseat out from one car to the other and having to hook it into the car and that whole process. I feel that this creation will really put car companies into the spotlight because now it will become a contest of who provides the "family car." So competitors can be different car companies. Keeping in mind that I want the ADs to speak for themselves, I feel that imagery of the product of course is super important, but the car as well. I'm sure families will be involved in the advertising as well, but again I'm still brainstorming this idea out.

Please let me know what you guys think and if maybe I should rethink a new product!

  1. I really love this because its something I've never even though about but it would be so useful. Also super fun to create, I personally like the idea of a button that would make the seat fold out. a lot of cars have functions like that for armrests and regular seats so I think it would make sense to follow that trend.

  2. Eleni – I too like this idea, as a grandparent we do the car shuffle sometimes because our car isn’t set up for 3 grandkids. So – your audience becomes larger than just the immediate family.

Question: These days, car seats come in a variety of sizes, depending on the ages of the children. So that’s something to consider – how will this work as the children grow?

What if you could push a button and program the size/type of car seat that will appear when you pull up the seat? Or, what if the seat itself decompresses and eventually fits into a very small space… like a pocket book? It virtually disappears, and reappears.

Remember – you don’t actually have to figure out HOW this works, I’m not asking you to be an engineer… but you WILL need to create imagery for it so you’ll need to consider what it looks like as it is being used.

What other aspects of the seat could there be? Programmable music? Educational videos?

What if this actually looks like a pod, rather than a seat…. So it is more of an environment for the child… not just a seat to sit on?

Keep thinking. Think BIG, really big.
